GeoDict User Guide 2025

License Server Installation

If GeoDict is used with a floating license, you have to install the floating license server before you can start using GeoDict.

Note-Info

Note! If GeoDict is used with a node-locked license, no license server is needed. In that case, you do not have to install the RLM license server.

GeoDict uses RLM to manage floating licenses and thus a RLM server must be installed to use GeoDict. RLM (Reprise License Manager) is a software licensing system from Reprise Software Inc. (www.reprisesoftware.com). All files needed for the installation are packaged with GeoDict, it is not necessary to download an installer from the RLM homepage.

The operating system of the computer on which you install the RLM server is independent of the operating system under which GeoDict is installed. For example, you may run GeoDict on a Windows computer while the RLM server is installed on a Linux computer, and vice versa. The RLM server and GeoDict may also be installed on the same computer.

We do not recommend installing the RLM license server on a virtual machine. For security reasons, Math2Market’s ISV server will not start on virtual license servers by default. (An ISV server is a custom license server process configured by a software vendor to host licenses for its products. To host GeoDict licenes, the m2m ISV server is used.) Installation of the RLM license server on a virtual machine is possible but requires a special license from Math2Market. So please contact Math2Market if you intend to run the RLM server on a virtual machine.

Overview

  • Join a Pre-Installed RLM Server
RLM is used by many vendors. Thus, you might already have a RLM server running that you can use to host your GeoDict license.
  • Start RLM as User
Learn how to start the RLM license server without administrator privileges (not recommended).
  • Install RLM as Service in Windows
Learn how to set up the RLM license server as a service in Windows (Requires administrator privileges, recommended installation).
  • Install RLM as Service in Linux
Learn how to set up the RLM license server as a service on a linux host (requires administrator privileges).
  • Firewall Settings
GeoDict must be able to access the license server, therefore the ports used by the RLM server must be opened.
  • License Usage Reports
Enable license usage reports by setting the right parameters in the .ini file of the license server.
  • Access Control to the RLM Web Interface
Define access roles for users and administrators that allow all GeoDict users to see who is currently using the license.
  • Managing User Access to Licenses
As administrator, you may restrict access to the GeoDict licenses to certain groups or users.
