GeoDict User Guide 2025

Design Battery

Use the Design Battery command to design a cuboid battery cell from two electrodes. Design Battery will add a separator and current collectors.

If you want to create more flexible geometries, use the GeoDict structure generators or segment a corresponding gray-value scan. Learn more about the requirements for such geometries here.

To design a battery using BatteryDict, choose Battery and Design Battery from the pull-down menus and click Edit to choose the options.

The Design Battery dialog opens, containing three tabs where to define the morphology of the battery (Geometry tab) and the constituent materials for Anode and Cathode.

After all parameters are set, click OK in the Design Battery dialog, to keep the parameters selected in memory, or Cancel to discard the parameters.

Click Design in the BatteryDict section of the GUI to create the battery.

If the battery is created successfully, a result file with the name chosen for Result File Name (*.gdr) is created in the selected project folder, as well as a structure file (*.gdt) in the subfolder with the same name.

The Result Viewer of the result file opens automatically after the generation, showing the information of the result file.

Topics of this section

  • Geometry
Define the electrodes and the separator thickness for the battery geometry.
  • Anode and Cathode
    Define anode and cathode materials.
  • All Solid State Batteries
    Create batteries with solid electrolytes.
  • More Flexible Geometries
Instead of generating a cuboid battery geometry with Design Battery, also arbitrary battery geometries can be used for charging simulations. Learn about the requirements for such structures.
  • Results
