Stiffness Estimation

The Stiffness Estimation GeoApp estimates the stiffness for one constituent material, if the stiffness of the complete structure is known.

Note-Important

Modules needed to run this GeoApp:

ElastoDict-FeelMath

Click Edit… to open the Stiffness Estimation Parameters dialog .

The result file name can be entered in Result File Name (*.gdr).

The Compute Direction (X, Y, or Z) for the stiffness and the Orientation Mode are defined in their drop-down menus. Refer to the ElastoDict Deformations solver settings for more details. In this example, the stiffness in Z-Direction of material with ID 01 is estimated.

The material stiffness of the structure in the given direction is set in Target Stiffness in given Direction / (GPa).

Enter the ID number of the material for which the stiffness should be estimated in Estimate Stiffness for Material ID.

The stopping criteria is defined in Tolerance / (%). If the relative error for the estimated structure stiffness is smaller than the specified tolerance, the estimation stops.

After all parameters are set, click OK to close the Stiffness Estimation parameters dialog and click Run to start the estimation.

Results

The estimation result is documented among others in the Results tab of the Result Viewer. The table shown in the Report tab summarizes the GeoApp results. In addition to the user-defined target stiffness of the structure, the stiffness reached during the fitting process is shown.

In this example, the stiffness of the epoxy matrix (material ID00) of a composite structure is estimated. The table displayed in the Results - Report subtab shows that the estimated overall structure stiffness (Reached Stiffness) is 7.159 GPa with a defined Target Stiffness of 7.2 GPa. The Estimated Stiffness for Material00, which is the stiffness for the epoxy matrix, is 4.429 GPa. The fitting process in this example took 3 iterations.
