GrainFind
Use the GrainFind module to identify individual grains in structures where the grain boundaries are unknown. For each identified grain, the module computes an individual best-fit shape and its orientation in the structure. This makes it possible to perform simulations on the structure that were previously impossible, such as simulations of mechanical properties that depend on grain orientation. Additionally, the structural information can be used with the GrainGeo module to generate similar structures, or digital twins, of the original structure.
Potential applications include identifying grains in battery electrodes in electrochemistry and using information about individual grains to foster a thorough understanding of rock structure in Digital Rock Physics. GrainFind can also characterize particles in particle filtration applications.
Additional to the grain identification, it is also possible to Identify Binder (AI) using machine learning technologies. Please note that for this feature a special license is required.
Moreover, the grain size distribution can be estimated through the Estimate Grain Diameters command.
