GeoDict User Guide 2025

Anode and Cathode

The next step is to assign electrolyte and active materials, as well as binder and carbon black to the materials available in the structures of anode and cathode.

Under the Anode and Cathode tabs all material IDs of the anode and cathode structure are assigned to a material

  • electrolyte,
  • up to four different binder materials or other conductive additive phases per electrode,
  • up to four different active materials per electrode,
  • or inclusion.

In the example shown here, both the anode and cathode consist of only one active material.

Built-in default materials from the GeoDict material database can be selected from the pull-down menu. Materials and corresponding parameters can be changed when performing a charging simulation later on.

If one of the materials should have no active role in the battery charging process, assign it to the Default Manual Inclusion Material. In that case, no conduction is possible in this material. It has no potential and does not contain lithium.

It is possible to define up to four conductive additives in one electrode. Choose Default Manual Binder & Carbon Black Material and later, in the Charge Battery dialog, assign them the role “Binder / Conductive Additive” and set them to Manual.
