GeoDict User Guide 2025

Complex Multi-Layer Weave

The Complex Multi-Layer Weave command allows to generate sophisticated multi layered weaves and gives you full control over the weave generation. Thus, the graphical user interface contains more options than those for the single-layer weave types. For the structure generation, the physical contact between the threads is simulated by an iterative physics-based solver, the FreeWeave solver.

Note-Info

Note! Until GeoDict 2023, this command was named FreeWeave. Starting with GeoDict 2024 it is named Complex Multi-Layer Weave. The options menu has not changed.

At the top of the Edit... dialog, the name for the folder containing the generation results can be entered in the Result File Name (*.gdr) box. You can either keep the default name or choose a new one that fits the current project.

On the top right, the available units (m, cm, mm, µm, nm, and Inch) are selectable from the pull-down menu. When the units are changed, the entered values are adjusted automatically.

The weave parameters are organized under the tabs Global, Materials and Thread Types, Binding, and Solver Settings.

Learn how to create Complex Multi-Layer Weave structures:

  • Global
Define settings for the domain, unit cell and the weft-/warp-layer system.
  • Materials and Thread Types
Define the shape and the material of the threads.
  • Binding
Define how the individual threads are bent around each other.
  • Solver Settings
Define the settings for the FreeWeave solver in this tab.
